Dafydd Pettigrew

Senior Consultant

As a consultant, I have been involved with a mixture of parks planning, asset management, capital works delivery and programme management projects for councils, charitable trusts and Maori trusts. My role often requires a high degree of consultation and engagement with the public, key stakeholders and mana whenua.

In any project, I work with people to develop alternative and innovative options for open spaces. This involves developing and undertaking meaningful, effective, and efficient public consultation and engagement. In doing so, I help clients develop and improve relationships with key stakeholders and the public.

Xyst in action

Xyst has made a big impact on outdoor spaces in ways that many people wouldn’t notice. One example was with signage for Gisborne MTB Park. The challenges involved developing a signage package for a park with a complex network of trails and potentially dangerous junctions.

We achieved this by providing a full sign package that was clear, concise, intuitive and that significantly reduced the quantity of signage and sign pollution in the park. It also incorporated the council’s dual language sign policy.

While people may take signage for granted, it plays a significant role in improving the user experience in parks, health and safety, and reduces conflict between walkers and bikers.
